1. It can improve health and reduce hunger simultaneously.

2. It creates flexibility within the food chain.

3. It offers medical advancement opportunities.

4. It allows us to preserve resources.

5. It helps us minimize or eliminate waste products.

6. It can reduce infectious disease rates

The Cons of Biotechnology-

1. It creates an all-or-nothing approach.

2. It is a field of research with many unknowns.

3. It could ruin croplands.

4. It turns human life into a commodity.

5. It can be used for destruction.

Hope it helps

Assume that an organism exists in which crossing over does not occur, but that all other processes associated with meiosis occur
expeople1 [14]

Answer:

The options are missing, they are:

a.The daughter cells of meiosis I would be diploid, but the daughter cells of meiosis II would be haploid.

b.The two sister chromatids of each replicated chromosome would no longer be identical.

c.The four daughter cells produced in meiosis II would all be different.

d.The two daughter cells produced in meiosis I would be identical.

e.There would be less genetic variation among gametes.

f.Independent assortment of chromosomes would not occur.

The correct answer is E, there would be less genetic variation among gametes.

Explanation:

Crossing-over or also called recombination is a phenomenon peculiar to meiosis alone. Meiosis is that kind of division that is employed by sexual-reproducing organisms to produce gamete/sex cells. Crossing-over is a process that may or may not occur, if it does, it occurs in prophase of meiosis I, and it involves exchanging equal chromosomal segments between two non-sister chromatids or homologous chromosomes. Crossing-over is the means by which sexually reproducing organisms use to bring about genetic variation among their species.

It is worthy to note that the non-occurrence of crossing-over does not affect the number of chromosomes as a normal meiotic division will always yield haploid gametes right from meiosis I.

Since crossing-over did not occur, the homologous chromosomes (similar but non-identical chromosomes) will separate into each cell during meiosis I, meaning that each cell will have chromosomes that are either maternal or paternal. This will reduce the chance of genetic variation occuring among species.

In pea plants the allele for round seeds (R) are dominant to the allele for wrinkled seeds (r). The allele for yellow seeds (Y)
SashulF [63]

Answer:

The correct answer is -  A. RY, rY, Ry, ry

Explanation:

Gametes are the sex cells or reproductive cells that are haploid in number. Gametes carry only one allele of each gene or chromosome in any organism. The male gamete called an egg or ovum whereas the male gamete called sperm or pollen.

In this case, the heterozygous plant has the genotype RrYy. In each of the gametes, there would one allele of each gene. The gametes get a dominant R and a dominant Y allele and a recessive r and a recessive y allele. Each produces 25% each of RY, Ry, rY, and ry.

Within a cell, the amount of protein made using a given mRNA molecule depends partly on
Ksivusya [100]

Answer:

b. the rate at which the mRNA is degraded.

Explanation:

DNA is transcribed into mRNA which then joins ribosomes present in the cytoplasm to serve as a template for protein synthesis. Regulation of gene expression occurs at several levels.

One such regulatory mechanism is the stability of mRNA and the rate of its degradation which in turn affects the availability of template for the process of protein synthesis and thereby keeps a check on the total amount of protein being formed in a cell.

For example, a very short life span of bacterial mRNA (few minutes) allows them to regulate the pattern of protein synthesis quickly in response to the changes in surroundings.

Two genes on chromosome 7 of corn are identified by the recessive alleles gl (glossy), which determines glossy leaves, and ra (r
Alchen [17]

Answer:

recombination frequency = 4.5% or 4.5mu

Explanation:

to calculate the frequency of recombination between these genes

we have,

recombination frequency = [ number of recombinnants/total number of offsprings) x 100

total offspring  = 88 + 103 + 6 + 3

total offspring =  200

Gl ra 88............................ parent

gl Ra 103.........................parent

Gl Ra 6..................................... recombinant

gl ra 3................................................ recombinant

recombination frequency = {6+3/88 + 103 + 6 + 3} x 100

recombination frequency = 9/200 x1oo

recombination frequency = 0.045 x 100

recombination frequency = 4.5% or 4.5mu
