One prevalent system of body composition assessment is the two-compartment model introduced by Brozek, Grande, Anderson, & Keys (1963) and Siri (1961) , which assumes the body is made up of fat and fat-free compartments. The terms fat-free mass and lean body mass are often incorrectly used interchangeably.
