The text is an excerpt from Harry Truman's Truman Doctrine address. Which portion of the excerpt is best aligned with the goals

of global independence movements after World War II? I believe that it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures. I believe that we must assist free peoples to work out their own destinies in their own way. I believe that our help should be primarily through economic and financial aid which is essential to economic stability and orderly political processes. The world is not static, and the status quo is not sacred.

The portion of the excerpt which is best aligned with the goals of global independence movements after World War II? is:

 • B. I believe that we must assist free peoples to work out their own destinies in their own way.

Based on the complete text, we can see that there were different measures put in place among the major countries of the world after the damage of the World War II.

With this in mind, they planned a convention and wanted global independence movements among European countries and other countries of the world so that such war would not break out in the future and this can be best summarised in letting the people make their own choice.

Therefore, the correct answer is option B

"Democracy does not guarantee equality of conditions—it only guarantees equality of opportunity."—Irving Kristol
Vlad1618 [11]

Answer: What the author meant by this statement is that C) in a democracy, everyone has an equal chance to succeed.

Explanation: Irving Kristol was an American journalist born in the early 20th century. Kristol was also known as "the godfather of neoconservatism" since he advocated the promotion of democracy and was against the New Left. In this statement, he states that, although not everyone has the same life conditions in a democracy, everyone has the same chances to attain success in life. He does not make reference to government leaders nor to socialism; therefore, the correct answer is C).
