Solve the equation and justify each step.<br> 8.2 - 9 = 7x + 6 - 2x
Snezhnost [94]

Answer:

x = 5

Step-by-step explanation:

8x-9=7x+6-2x

We move all terms to the left:

8x-9-(7x+6-2x)=0

We add all the numbers together, and all the variables

8x-(5x+6)-9=0

We get rid of parentheses

8x-5x-6-9=0

We add all the numbers together, and all the variables

3x-15=0

We move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right

3x=15

x=15/3

x = 5

Please help me. I don’t understand this at all...
mylen [45]
Problem 1

With limits, you are looking to see what happens when x gets closer to some value. For example, as x gets closer to x = 2 (from the left and right side), then y is getting closer and closer to y = 1/2. Therefore the limiting value is 1/2

Another example: as x gets closer to x = 4 from the right hand side, the y value gets closer to y = 4. This y value is different if you approach x = 0 from the left side (y would approach y = 1/2)

Use examples like this and you'll get the results you see in "figure 1"

For any function values, you'll look for actual points on the graph. A point does not exist if there is an open circle. There is an open circle at x = 2 for instance, so that's why f(2) = UND. On the other hand, f(0) is defined and it is equal to 4 as the point (0,4) is on the function curve.

Problem 2

This is basically an extension of problem 1. The same idea applies. See "figure 2" (in the attached images) for the answers.

If someone could help me with it would be greatly appreciated. A scientist has two solutions, which she has labeled Solution A a
Talja [164]

Answer:

16 for Sol A and 24 for Sol B

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x = the number of ounces of Solution A

Let y = the number of ounces of Solution B

x + y = 40        y = 40 - x

.60x + .85y = .75(40)

.60x + .85y = 30      Multiply both sides of the equation by 100 to remove the decimal points.

60x + 85y = 3000

60x + 85(40 - x) = 3000

60x + 3400 - 85x = 3000

-25x = -400

x = 16 ounces

y = 40 - 16

y = 24 ounces

Find the equation of the line with slope of 4 and y-intercept of -3.
Lelechka [254]

Answer:

y = 4x -3

Step-by-step explanation:

The slope intercept form of an equation is

y = mx+b where m is the slope and b is the y ntercept

y = 4x -3
