If you draw the graph of y = -x + 6  on the above graph  the solution to system will be the coordinates of the point of intersection.
the equation of the line drawn above is y = 0.5x

so you can also find the solution by solving the system
y = 0.5x
y = -x + 6

0.5x = -x + 6
1.5x = 6
x = 6/1.5 = 4

and y = 0.5*4 = 2

The answer is  (4, 2)     - the third choice.

If you were to plot the function y=-x+6, both functions meet at the point (4,2)

Can someone explain how they got the answer for this?
MrRissso [65]

Answer:

y = 6x + 4

Step-by-step explanation:

We know the equation is linear.  First, use two points to find the slope of the line.

m = (y₂ − y₁) / (x₂ − x₁)

m = (10 − 4) / (1 − 0)

m = 6

The y-intercept is 4.  So the equation of the line is:

y = mx + b

y = 6x + 4

Need help with one can someone helppp me
son4ous [18]

Answer:

it's 4

Step-by-step explanation:

take the given point and evaluate the x value in for x, and the y value for y, and simplify. If the equation is true, the point is a solution. if not, then it is not a solution.

The equation of a line is y = –2x + 10. What are the coordinates of the point on the line when the value of x is –4?
alexira [117]

Answer:

(-4,18)

Step-by-step explanation:

First, plug in -4 for x in the equation to solve for y, y = -2*-4+10, y = 8+10, y = 18. Now, you have the x and y coordinate for the point (-4,18).

What is the slope of the line that passes through the points (2,8) and (12,20)?
Katen [24]

First find slope we use : m=y2-y1/x2-x1
