Read the quotation from chapter 5 of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. “Well, I'll learn her how to meddle. And looky here—you

drop that school, you hear? I'll learn people to bring up a boy to put on airs over his own father and let on to be better'n what HE is.” What is Twain’s most likely intention for employing humor within this quotation? to portray Huck’s father as educated and helpful to portray Huck’s father as uneducated and ignorant to convince the reader that Huck’s father truly wants to help Huck to convince the reader that Huck’s father has the ability to be funny

The passage intends to show Huck's father as uneducated and ignorant, as shown in the second answer option.

We can arrive at this answer because:

  • The excerpt shown above is a speech by Huck's father.
  • In this passage, he shows a strong aversion to education and doesn't want Huck to go to school.
  • That's because he thinks the school will make Huck superior to him, allowing Huck to be ashamed of his father.
  • In that case, he wants Huck not to be educated, like him, so that Huck will never feel superior.

This shows how ignorant and uneducated Huck's father is, wanting Huck to match his ignorance.

Reptile [31]

Answer:

There are many painful realizations along the road to maturity.

Explanation: Cowboy trade cards was something Jerry enjoyed collecting with his friends. He had to make a decision about whether or not he should give up his money to help buy a present for his dad's birthday or spend it on the cowboy trading card he's been waiting for. Soon his father and brother lost their jobs. President trading cards replaced cowboy cards. Now Jerry feels bad about not chipping in money for the birth gift. Towards the end, he makes a decision to sell his cowboy card to Rollie and gives the money to his brother so that he can use it towards his dance. Jerry has become thoughtful and mature by doing so.
