Answer: Interphase is the longest part of the cell cycle.

During interphase, high metabolic activity occurs, and the cell then performs several functions in the body. In the interphase, the supply of the cell to proteins is increased, and thus the cell increases its volume.

Also, chromosomes duplicate in the interphase. Three periods are distinguished within the interphase: G₁-phase - pre synthetic period, S-phase - synthesis period and G₂-phase - post-synthetic period.
