Radar can detect precipitation such as rain or snow, as well as where it is headed and its speed. So, it can detect weather because it can be used to see where weather fronts will be and at what time. Radars are not used to find geographical data, so it would not be useful to combine maps or determine locations. Additionally, radar cannot affect satellites or their reception.
