The process that is responsible for building successive fossils layers on earth is called DEPOSITION.
Deposition refers to the process by which sediments are added to a particular land form. There are different types of sediments and they are made up of different elements. A sediment can be in form of rocks and mineral debris, a precipitate formed from dissolution of a mineral in water or remains of other plants and animals. As these sediments are added to the foundational fossils layers, they form deposits which result in building up of successive layers.<span />

The radioactive atom R 88 210 a is an alpha emitter. What nucleus does it produce?
olasank [31]

Answer:

X 86 206

Explanation:

Radioactive atoms are nuclei that can under go disintegration to emit either an alpha particle, beta particle or gamma radiation. The process could be spontaneous or stimulated.

When a radioactive atom R 88 210 emits alpha particle, it would produce an element with atomic number 86 and mass number 206 i.e X 86 206. An alpha particle is usually a helium nucleus.

                     R^{210} ⇒ x^{206} + He^{4} + energy
