In Act 2 Scene 2 of Hamlet, Polonius believed that Hamlet had gone mad. However, the audience knows the real situation of things. Hamlet was simply pretending to be mad.

Dramatic irony is a type of irony in which the audience knows the truth behind a character's behavior even though the other characters in the story may not know this.

We find an example in act 2 of Hamlet where Polonius thought that Hamlet was mad whereas, the audience knew the truth.
