The battle, which took place on January 8, 1815, featured the British aggressors intent on capturing New Orleans, which they thought would give them control of the vast majority of the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase. New Orleans' financial district was superior to others in North America. The U.S military had a stronger Navy. The U.S troops were better acclimated to the climate of Louisiana. The U.S. troops were familiar with the land.
