We have that the the probability that the patient is in the hospital for surgery is mathematically given as

X=1/3

Probability

Question Parameters:

 • The probability is 0.6 that a patient selected at random from the current residents of a certain hospital will be a male.
 • The probability that the patient will be a male who is in for surgery is 0.2.

Generally the equation for the probability the patients is in the hospital surgery is mathematically given as

X= a patient selected at random is male/the patient will be a male who is in for surgery

Therefore

X=\frac{0.2}{0.6}

X=1/3
