Montano1993 [528]

Answer:

Montag's wife whom he courted in Chicago and married when they both were twenty, Mildred characterizes shallowness and mediocrity. Her abnormally white flesh and chemically burnt hair epitomize a society that demands an artificial beauty in women through diets and hair dye. Completely immersed in an electronic world and growing more incompatible with Montag with every electronic gadget that enters her house, she fills her waking hours with manic drives in the beetle and by watching a TV clown, who distracts her from her real feelings and leads her nearly to death from an overdose. Unwilling and unable to analyze rationally, she lives the shallow life that Beatty touts — acquiescence to a technological chamber of horrors. She distances herself from real emotion by identifying with "the family," a three-dimensional fiction in which she plays a scripted part. Her longing for a fourth wall of television suggests her capability of submerging in fantasy to withdraw from the roles of wife, mother, and whole human being.

Addicted to the labor-saving machines that toast and butter her bread and fill her mind with simplistic entertainment, she forgets to bring aspirin to her ailing husband and recedes into communication. Her replies to him are impersonal and callous, as illustrated by her bland announcement of Clarisse's death. To remove any doubts about her materialistic, robotic lifestyle, Mildred surrounds herself with friends like Clara Phelps and Ann Bowles, vapid and witless dullards who select a presidential candidate by his televised good looks. Unsurprisingly, Mildred betrays her husband and flees their marriage while mourning the loss of her TV family. Her white-powdered face, her colorless lips, and her stiff body foreshadow the corpse she soon becomes. The oppression and militarism that she so willingly accepts expectedly turns on her and exterminates her in a single apocalyptic blast.

Which event in the story initiates the rising action? in the monkey paws
masya89 [10]

The introduction and the history of the talisman is the initial rising action in the W. W. Jacobs short story, "The Monkey's Paw." The Whites inherit the paw from their acquaintance, Sergeant-Major Morris, who reveals the mysterious past of the shriveled hand. When he throws it into the fireplace, Mr. White retrieves it. Morris warns them to wish wisely before leaving for the night.
The rising action continues as Mr. White makes his first wish.

"I wish for two hundred pounds," said the old man distinctly.

Mr. White feels the paw move, and a depressing feeling of uneasiness falls upon the family for the remainder of the night. The next morning, Mr. and Mrs. White are paid a visit from the company where their son, Herbert, works. He has been killed in a grisly accident--"caught in the machinery"--and the Whites are offered a compensation of 200 pounds. Although it could be argued that this is the climax to the story, the action actually continues to rise a bit longer as the Whites exercise their second wish--for Herbert to be alive again. The rising action peaks when the Whites realize that their less-than-specific wish has an alternate possibility--that Herbert may be revived but in his deathly, crippled state.

Maslow hierarchy Based on the information in the article, the reader can conclude:
Inessa05 [86]

Answer:

D). Some people never reach self-actualization.

Explanation:

As per the hierarchy proposed by Maslow in the given article, the readers would be able to deduce that 'some people would never reach the state of self-realization or self-actualization.' The key reason for such a conclusion is that Maslow's theory does not have a universal application and at the same time, every human possesses a distinct behavioral style. The formation of a generalized idea regarding stable job or earning as the origin of self-actualization is neither appropriate nor justified because not every individual artist possesses a stable job or despite having a job, they may not have the feeling of self-fulfillment. Thus, option D is the correct answer.

Imagine having to leave everything you've ever known in order to get a job.
mel-nik [20]

Answer:

It's hard to leave everything that you have, but what if you have nothing?

Yes, I would be able to leave everything I have and know to get a job. The reason is because of change, everything and everyone is changing every single day. Change can be good and change can be bad, it can also be hard or easy.
