In my opinion, it is true because McCandless got ready for the trip by packing elementary things, opposed to the things we pack nowadays where technology absorbs much of our attention and time.
Through this quote, the author implies that today's society has limited our sense of freedom and adventure due to the increased use of technological devices which have become the new way to enjoy and be encased in a virtual world at the same time. In the past, children enjoyed more freedom and used to engage in more fun and adventurous games, rather than virtual ones as it happens at present time.

It’s March 29th, and the time is 8:11. As I woke up, my first thought was (name). We had an argument over coffee. It’s embarrassing to think about. Something that small made us get at each other’s throats. It’s been a few days, maybe even a week and we still have spoken to one another! Over coffee! Know you may be wondering what I’m talking about: First we meet at our favorite coffee shop, we find a cute little spot and sit. Next, I tell her I’ll try and order what she usually drinks. So, I come back and give her her coffee. Not even 5 minutes go by and she asks why her coffee tastes different. I tell her what I ordered: Black coffee with milk and sugar. Then she yells at me saying she’s lactose intolerant! How was I supposed to know! I mean sure, it’s my fault she had a bit of diarrhea, but she could’ve told me beforehand. Anyway, I’ve felt bad ever since and I don’t know how to make it up to her. I feel horrible.

It is better to be respected in my opinion. It is better respected than loved because love can get to personal, make someone uncomfortable, and it can be overwhelming. When you are loved you can feel like there is someone watching you making sure you love them back. There is mental diseases that can affect somebody's comfortability due to love. Also, love can get to personal and touchy at times. I say it's better to be respected.
When you are respected you are calm and kind to people. It isn't much of a struggle to respect somebody back. When you give respect it can make someone happy or be your friend. While also knowing that they will never watch over you or care deeply about how you feel towards them. Respecting people is natural for people to do and see.
In the end, I think being respected is better for those following reasons. Having somebody love you is to much stress and can take time away from what you want to do in life. How does being respected or loved affect you?
