what I'll do is ignore the 3 hrs and 15 minutes and add them after.
1 day is 24 hours, each hour is 60 minutes so if we take away 8 hours and 30 minutes from a day we have 15 hours and 30 minutes left. so now we add 3 hours and 15minutes leaving us with 18 hours and 45 minutes
