The Battle of Okinawa took place from April 1 to June 22, 1945 in southern Japan between Japanese and American forces.

The Americans landed on the small Kerama islands near Okinawa on 26 March 1945 and on Okinawa itself on 1 April. The fight was called tetsu no ame, "rain of steel" by the locals. In this battle the world first became acquainted on a large scale with the phenomenon of kamikaze. On June 23, the last Japanese surrendered after very fierce fighting.

3- Destruction of Hiroshima --- August 6th, 1945

On the morning of August 6, 1945, an American B-29 bomber, named Enola Gay after the mother (Enola Gay Haggard) of the crew commander, Colonel Paul Tibbets, dropped the Little Boy atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima with the equivalent of 13 to 18 kilotons of TNT. The total death toll ranged from 90 to 166 thousand people.
