Answer:

(i) The order of decomposition reaction of cyclobutane is first order.

(ii) It requires 53.15 milliseconds for 99% decomposition of cyclobutane.

(d) Rate law = k [\rm Cl_2Cl

2

, as chlorine is the reactant.

(e) Thus student claim is false as Chlorine gas is the reactant, not a catalyst.

(i) The order of reaction can be determined with the help of a graph given below. The graph depicts the reduction in the concentration of cyclobutane with time depicting decomposition.

The graph depicts the reaction to be of first-order kinetics. The general concentration expression can be:

\rm C_(_t_)\;=\;C_(_0_)\;e^-^k^t

Where, \rm C_(_t_) = concentration at time t

\rm C_(_0_) = initial concentration 1.60 mol/liter

k = rate constant

for first order reaction,

k = In \rm \frac{2}{Half\;time}

Halftime

2

From the graph, half time  = 0.008 sec i.e. time when the concentration reduced to 50%.

k = In \rm \frac{2}{0.008}

0.008

2

k = 86.64 / sec.

(ii) The time required for 99% decomposition can be calculated, by calculating the \rm C_(_t_) for left 1 % solution.

0.01 \rm C_(_0_)  =  \rm e^-^k^t

-kt = -4.605

t = 53.15 miliseconds

(d) The rate law is obtained against the reaction.

In rate law, the intermediates that appear in the reaction are removed, and the equation has been formed.

The slow step is the formation of Chlorine. Thus the rate law will be:

Rate = k [\rm Cl_2Cl

2

(e) The catalyst function in improvising the rate of the reaction. Since, the reaction has chlorine as the part of the reactant, it is consumed in the reaction and thus does not act as a catalyst. Thus the claim of the student is false.

A survey found that women's heights are normally distributed with mean
zheka24 [161]

Answer:

a. 99.30% of the woman meet the height requirement

b.  If all women are eligible except the shortest 1% and the tallest 2%, then height should be between 58.32 and 68.83

Explanation:

<em>According to the survey</em>, women's heights are normally distributed with mean 63.9 and standard deviation 2.4

a)

A branch of the military requires women's heights to be between 58 in and 80 in. We need to find the probabilities that heights fall between 58 in and 80 in in this distribution. We need to find z-scores of the values 58 in and 80 in. Z-score shows how many standard deviations far are the values from the mean. Therefore they subtracted from the mean and divided by the standard deviation:

z-score of 58 in= z=\frac{58-63.9}{2.4} = -2.458

z-score of 80 in= z=\frac{80-63.9}{2.4} = 6.708

In normal distribution 99.3% of the values have higher z-score than -2.458

0% of the values have higher z-score than 6.708. Therefore 99.3% of the woman meet the height requirement.

b)

To find the height requirement so that all women are eligible except the shortest 1% and the tallest 2%, we need to find the boundary z-score of the

shortest 1% and the tallest 2%. Thus, upper bound for z-score has to be 2.054 and lower bound is -2.326

Corresponding heights (H) can be found using the formula

2.054=\frac{H-63.9}{2.4}  and

-2.326=\frac{H-63.9}{2.4}

Thus lower bound for height is 58.32 and

Upper bound for height is 68.83
