Answer: Among all civilian college grade-ates, veterans were more likely than nonveterans to have attended community college (table 3). Although there were similarities between veterans and nonveterans in the primary reasons for attending community college (e.g., to earn credits for a bachelor’s degree), there were differences in the timing of attendance and in the percentage who received an associate degree. Among those who attended community college, 64% of veterans and 45% of nonveterans attended after high school and before enrolling in a 4-year college or university. This difference in timing of attendance likely contributes to the difference in associate degree attainment between veterans and nonveterans. Among civilian college graduates, 35% of veterans earned an associate degree, compared with 20% of nonveterans.
