Hofstede believes that current society have a more positive outlook on the masculine characteristic such as heroism and assertiveness and pegged them as a suitable character for leadership positions. 
Meanwhile, feminine characteristics is viewed as something fragile that needed to be protected. This view affect the distribution of gender in a leadership position as we see today.</span>
