Equation 1)  2x - 6y = 5
Equation 2)  x + y = 2

Multiply all of equation 2 by 2.

2)   2(x + y = 2)

2)  2x + 2y = 4
1)  2x - 6y = 5

Subtract equations from one another.

8y = -1

Divide both sides by 8.

y = -1/8

Plug in -1/8 for x in the first equation.

2x - 6y = 5

2x - 6(-1/8) = 5

Simplify.

2x + 3/4 = 5

Subtract 3/4 from both sides.

2x = 5 - 3/4

Simplify.

2x = 4 1/4

Divide both sides by 2.

x = 17/8 OR 2 1/8

~Hope I helped!~

(17/8, -1/8) or if you want it in decimals  (2.125, -0.125)

2x-6y=5
x+y=2      y=2-x
2x-6(2-x)=5
2x-12+6=5
8x-12=5
8x=17
x=17/8

(17/8)+y=2   You plug in the x-value to find the y-value now
y=2-17/8
y=-1/8

Michelle tried to solve an equation step by step. \begin{aligned} t-\dfrac35&=\dfrac45\\\\ t-\dfrac35+\dfrac35&=\dfrac45
sashaice [31]

Answer:

Step 2

Step-by-step explanation:

Michelle's step in trying to solve the equation is given below:

\begin{aligned} t-\dfrac35&=\dfrac45\\\\ t-\dfrac35+\dfrac35&=\dfrac45+\dfrac35&\green{\text{Step } 1}\\\\ t&=1&\blue{\text{Step } 2} \end{aligned}

Michelle made a mistake in Step 2.

The right hand side of Step 1:  \dfrac45+\dfrac35\neq 1

Rather, the correct sum is:

\dfrac45+\dfrac35=\dfrac75\\\\=1\dfrac25

How many 1/32 ft pieces can be cut from a 7/8 ft long piece of rope?
Mariana [72]

Answer:

28 1/32 ft pieces

Step-by-step explanation:

To solve this problem you need to get both the fractions to have same denominator, to do this we will times 7/8 by 4 to get 28/32. After this we can start comparing them. From the 28/32 we can make 28 pieces because 28*1/32=28/32
