How does James Black's story illustrate Tough's point that "anything seems possible—as long as there's a teacher out there who c
alina1380 [7]

This question seems to be incomplete. However, there´s enough information to find the right answer.

Answer:

In his book How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character, Paul Tough uses James Black's story as an example of how although having good cognitive abilities is necessary, hard work and proper education is much more important to turn intelligence into academic success.

Explanation:

James´amazing talent at playing chess, which usually indicates a high intelligence, didn´t match his academic results despite his teacher´s efforts. According to Tough, James´main obstacle was the deficiency of his education throughout his life, and not a lack of resolution or intellectual capacity. Furthermore, he praises Elizabeth Spiegel, James´teacher, for her efforts to get the kid to get better academic achievements, and claims that it´s teachers like her who actually understand educational needs and the importance of helping students develop their own intellectual abilities.

Limited omniscient is the correct answer. With limited omniscient, the narrator knows everything - about one character. Their knowledge is limited. Omniscient narrators know everything about all characters. First person, rather than seeming like a close friend or confidant, makes it seem like we are in the narrator’s head.

Which of the following is the best definition for stream of consciousness?
vekshin1
Stream-of-consciousness is a very stylistic form of free indirect discourse. It is not spontaneous, or unintentional, or anything of the sort. In fact, if anything, it's just the opposite. It's highly stylized, but also purposeful and calculating. It sees the world wholly through the character's mind instead of through their senses, save for how the mind and the senses interact.

It relates to a lot of things - free association, synesthesia, free indirect discourse, without actually being any of them.

There's only a handful of writers that can actually do stream-of-consciousness writing with any success - Joyce and Faulkner come to mind immediately. In short, there's nothing wrong with trying it, but there's also nothing wrong with not having done that, but having done, say, free association instead.
