Pest resistance occurs when pests (insects, small animals, mites, weeds, and so on) are able to withstand insecticides and thus are not affected. Pest resistance is thought to be a feature of these species. Because of their unique genetic makeup, a small part of the pest population may survive exposure to a pesticide when it is first employed. These people pass on their resistant genes to the following generation.
