They weren't empathetic before this moment, they only were capable of feeling guilt after they had seen the sun. No one cared about Margot until they knew what the sun was like, after they knew what real life was, with its real colours. The sun changed their lives, it meant life. It meant happiness. It meant hope, it gave them a reason to keep on living, because in seven years, they would see it one more time.
