There was a sudden huge spike in the amount of babies born right after WW2, because up until that point most of the men were off fighting.

Most historians say the baby boom happened because of people wanting to start the families that they couldn't start during the great depression and the wars, and a sense of confidence in the coming era being safe for children and financially prosperious.
