At the end of the Prologue from <em>The Canterbury Tales</em>, the Host proposes each of the travelers to tell two stories on their way to Canterbury and two more on their way back, so that the journey is more enjoyable.
The host will ride with them and will be their judge and guide. The man who tells the best story will be given a supper in the host's tavern, paid by the rest of them. The man who draws the shortest cut shall begin telling the first story.
"Their" is used in titles. For example, "The family and their dog played games".
"Them" is used as the object of a verb or preposition to refer to two or more people or things previously mentioned or easily identified.
"I bathed the kids and read them stories"
