The total metabolic energy used by each to complete the course is determined as 656.91 J.

<h3>Kinetic energy of Jessie and Jaime</h3>

The kinetic energy of Jessie and Jaime is calculated as follows;

K.E = ¹/₂mv²

where;

  • m is mass of Jaime
  • v is speed

15 km/h = 4.17 m/s

5 km/h = 1.39 m/s

K.E = ¹/₂(68)(4.17)² + ¹/₂(68)(1.39)²

K.E = 656.91 J

Thus, the total metabolic energy used by each to complete the course is determined as 656.91 J.

If there is a huge boulder on your lawn and you want to determine its density, but it is
Olin [163]

There are different options here but all of them work by approximating and assuming.

i) that the boulder is above ground.

ii) that the bottom surface of the boulder is known.

iii) the shape of the boulder is taken into account.

The most accurate way is measuring it by displacement method but the boulder is immovable hence the volume can be calculated by measuring the boulder or a waterproof box to be built around the boulder and calculate the volume occupied by boulder.

All the above methods are estimating methods.

*Another way to find the density is through specific gravity.

S.G = <u>Density</u><u> </u><u>of</u><u> </u><u>object</u>

Density of water

If the material that makes the boulder is known that is if it's stone or a mineral then the specific gravity can be found.

If the boulder is purely rock then S.G lies between 3 - 3.5 and the density of water is known thus the density of the boulder can be found without moving the boulder.

This is what I think after correction and allthe best!

Find the equivalent resistance, current, and voltage across each resistor when the specified resistors are connected across a 20
timama [110]

Answer:

Explanation:

The question is incomplete. Here is the complete question.

"Find the equivalent resistance, the current supplied by the battery and the current through each resistor when the specified resistors are connected across a 20-V battery. Part (a) uses two resistors with resistance values that can be set with the animation sliders, and you can use the animation to verify your calculation. In part (b), three resistors are specified. (a) Two resistors are connected in series across a 20-V battery. Let R1 = 1 Ω and R2 = 2 Ω. Rea = (b) Add a third resistor to the circuit in series. Let R1 = 1 Ω, R2 = 2 Ω, and R3 = 3 Ω"

Using ohms law formula to solve the problem

E = IRt

E is the supply voltage

I is the total current

Rt is the total equivalent resistant.

a) Given two resistances

R1 = 1ohms and R2 = 2ohms

If the resistors are Connected in series across a 20V supply voltage,

-Equivalent resistance = R1+R2

= 1ohms + 2ohms

= 3ohms

- In a series connected circuit, same current flows through the resistors.

Using the formula E = IRt

I = E/Rt

I = 20/3

I = 6.67A

The current in both resistors is 6.67A

- Different voltage flows across a series connected circuit.

Using the formula V = IR

V is the voltage across each resistor

I is the current in each resistor

For 1ohms resistor,

V = 6.67×1

V = 6.67Volts

For 2ohms resistor

V = 6.67×2

V = 13.34Volts

b) If the resistors are three

R1 = 1ohms, R2 = 2ohms R3 = 3ohms

- Total equivalent resistance = 1+2+3

= 6ohms

- Current in each resistor I = E/Rt

I = 20/6

I = 3.33A

Since the same current flows through the resistors, the current across each of them is 3.33A

- Voltage across them is calculated as shown:

V = IR

For 1ohm resistor

V = 3.33×1

V = 3.33volts

For 2ohms resistor

V = 3.33×2

V = 6.66volts

For 3ohms resistor

V = 3.33×3

V = 9.99volts

At t=0, a train approaching a station begins decelerating from a speed of 80 mi/hr according to the acceleration function a(t)=−
vredina [299]

Answer:

a)  Δx = 49.23 mi , b)  Δx = 5.77 mi

Explanation:

As we have an acceleration function we must use the definition of kinematics

     a = dv / dt

     ∫dv = ∫ a dt

we integrate and evaluators

      v - vo = ∫ (-1280 (1 + 8t)⁻³ dt = -1280 ∫ (1+ 8t)⁻³ dt

We change variables

       1+ 8t = u

       8 dt = du

       v - v₀ = -1280 ∫ u⁻³ du / 8

       v -v₀ = -1280 / 8 (-u⁻²/2)

       v - v₀ = 80 (1+ 8t)⁻²

We evaluate between the initial t = 0 v₀ = 80 and the final instant t and v

      v- 80 = 80 [(1 + 8t)⁻² - 1]

      v = 80 (1+ 8t)⁻²

We repeat the process for defining speed is

     v = dx / dt

    dx = vdt

    x-x₀ = 80 ∫ (1-8t)⁻² dt

    x-x₀ = 80 ∫ u⁻² dt / 8

    x-x₀ = 80 (-1 / u)

    x-x₀ = -80 (1 / (1 + 8t))

We evaluate for t = 0 and x₀ and the upper point t and x

   x -x₀ = -80 [1 / (1 + 8t) - 1]

We already have the function of time displacement

a) let's calculate the position at the two points and be

t = 0 h

     x = x₀

t = 0.2 h

    x-x₀ = -80 [1 / (1 +8 02) -1]

    x-x₀ = 49.23

displacement is

  Δx = x (0.2) - x (0)

   Δx = 49.23 mi

b) in the interval t = 0.2 h at t = 0.4 h

t = 0.4h

     x- x₀ = -80 [1 / (1+ 8 0.4) -1]

     x-x₀ = 55 mi

    Δx = x (0.4) - x (0.2)

     Δx = 55 - 49.23

     Δx = 5.77 mi
