A Smart Car, which has a mass of 1000 kg, is going 20 m/s. When it hits the barrier, it stops with a time of 0.5 seconds. What i
antiseptic1488 [7]

Answer:

The change in momentum = -20000 kg m/s.

Explanation:

Mass m = 1000 kg

speed v₁ = 20 m/s

speed v₂ = 0 m/s

We know that,

The change in momentum

ΔP = m (Δv)

ΔP = m (v₂ - v₁)

     = 1000 (0 - 20)

     = 1000 (-20)

     = -20000 kg m/s

Thus, the change in momentum = -20000 kg m/s.

Note: negative sign indicates that the velocity is reducing when it hits the barrier.

Explain what parallel medium boundaries do to the path of the wave after it travels through both boundaries. (air and water)
Brilliant_brown [7]

Answer:

The boundaries cause the waves to change direction an effect called refraction.

Explanation:

When a wave crosses a boundary between different materials, the speed of the wave and its wavelength changes.When passing from air to water the two properties (speed and wavelength) decreases, and the wave is observed to change direction as it crosses the boundary between the two material.The bending of the wave is called refraction.

A 55 kg track and field athlete has an average power output of 5.4 kW during the 200 meter dash. How quickly did she finish the

What is power?

Power is simply defined as the rate at which work is done. It can be expressed mathematically as

Power (P) = work (W) / time (t)

But

Work = weight × distance

Therefore,

Power = (weight × distance ) / time

How to determine the time

  • Mass (m) = 55 Kg
  • Acceleration due to gravity (g) = 9.8 m/s²
  • Weight = mg = 55 × 9.8 = 539 N
  • Power (P) = 5.4 KW = 5.4 × 1000 = 5400 W
  • Distance (d) = 200 m
  • Time (t) =?

Power = (weight × distance ) / time

5400 = (539 × 200) / t

5400 = 107800 / t

Cross multiply

5400 × t = 107800

Divide both side by 5400

t = 107800 / 5400

t = 20 s
