X-linked genes are inherited. The affected girl's father is hemophilic (X-Y), and the mother might be either hemophilic (X-X-) or carrier normal (X+X-).

What are the X-linked genes?

These are the genes located in the X séx chromosome and not in the somatic ones.

Traits coded by these genes are inherited. This is, X-linked genes are transmitted from parents to children through generations.

According to this, X-linked genetic disorder will be inherited as well.

  • Men have a high probability of being affected since they only have one copy of the X chromosome.
  • In women, the effect of the mutation might be musk in heter0zyg0us state.

Hemophilia is a X-linked recessive genetic disorder.

Let us represent the recessive allele with the symbol -, and the dominant allele with the symbol +.

  • X- is the chromosome carrying the recessive allele
  • X+ is the chromosome carrying the dominant allele

For the affection to be expressed, the person must be either,

  • X-X- ⇒ woman/girl
  • X-Y ⇒ man/boy

If the baby girl is found to have inherited the trait from her parents, then her genotype is X-X-. She must have received one X- chromosomes from each parent.

  • Her father provided the X chromosome, so he must be hemophilic (X-Y)
  • Her mother provided the other X chromosome, but she can be either a carrier (heter0zyg0us, X+X-) or hemophilic (h0m0zyg0us recessive, X-X-).

Options,

Cross 1) affected father x carrier mother

Parentals) X-Y x X+X-

Gametes) X- Y X+ X-

Punnett square) X- Y

                       X+ X+X- X+Y

                       X- X-X- X-Y

F1) 1/2 = 50% of the progeny is expected to be healthy (25% X+X- girls + 25% X+Y boys)

    1/2 = 50% of the progeny is expected to be hemophilic (25% X-X- girls + 25% X-Y boys)

Cross 2) affected father x affected mother

Parentals) X-Y x X-X-

Gametes) X- Y X- X-

Punnett square) X- Y

                       X- X-X- X-Y

                       X- X-X- X-Y

F1) 100% of the progeny is expected to be hemophilic (50% X-X- girls + 50% X-Y boys)

  • the phenotype of the father ⇒ hemophilic (X-Y)
  • the phenotype of the mother ⇒ normal carrier (X+X-) or hemophilic (X-X-)

Which contraceptive method is 100 percent effective at preventing pregnancy?
emmainna [20.7K]

The correct answer is D. Abstinence

Explanation:

A contraceptive method or birth control method refers to a method used to avoid pregnancy or reduce the probability of getting pregnant. From antiquity, there have been different contraceptive methods but only in the last decades, methods have been designed based on science and its effectiveness has been studied.

Because of this, nowadays there are many contraceptive methods such as pills, condom, and implants that are about 80% to 95% effective, sterilization that is a around 98% effective and natural methods that have a lower percentage of effectiveness. But the only method that has been proven as completely effective or 100% effective is abstinence because by avoiding any type of sexual intercourse it is virtually impossible an egg can be fertilized by a spermatozoid.

Select the correct answer from each drop-down menu.
4vir4ik [10]

Explanation:

Amylase is a digestive enzyme secreted and is responsible for breaking down starch.

Digestion describes the intake, chemical and physical breakdown, absorption of nutrients and excretion of food. Alpha amylase, an enzyme produced in the pancreas, is found in human saliva; it catalyzes the breakdown of starch into glucose

Further Explanation:

Food is chemically and mechanically broken down into into smaller particles. This begins in the mouth, where food is mechanically crushed by the teeth, and mixed with saliva to allow water based enzymes like lingual lipase and amylase to work;- it's then transported to the stomach via the esophagus.

Alpha amylase, an enzyme produced in the pancreas, is also found in human saliva; it catalyzes the hydrolysis, or breakdown of starch into glucose in the stomach as gastric amylase. Amylase acts on polysaccharides bonds at random points along the chain by splitting the α 1-4 glycosidic bonds.

Humans, as consumers, use energy by eating food and breaking it down to release
Temka [501]

Humans, as consumers, use energy by eating food and breaking it down to release Carbon dioxide and water and is denoted as option D.

What is Cellular respiration?

This is the process in which food molecules are oxidized in the presence of oxygen to release energy.

The food is broken down into simpler units and is usually accompanied with the release of Carbon dioxide and water.
