The area of a shape is the amount of space it can occupy.

  • <em>The same hallway be painted with the same pattern, but using twice as much black paint as white paint</em>
  • <em>The length of the hallway is 40 feet</em>

<em />

<em />

From the complete question (see attachment), the length of the white area is:

\mathbf{Length = x + x + x + x + x}

\mathbf{Length = 5x}

The width is:

\mathbf{Width = 6}

So, the area of the white segment is:

\mathbf{Area = Length \times Width}

\mathbf{Area = 5x \times 6}

\mathbf{Area = 30x }

The length of the black area is:

\mathbf{Length = x + 1 + x + 1 + x+1 +x +1}

\mathbf{Length = 4x + 4}

The width is:

\mathbf{Width = 6}

So, the area of the black segment is:

\mathbf{Area = Length \times Width}

\mathbf{Area = (4x + 4) \times 6}

\mathbf{Area = 24x + 24}

So, their areas  are:

\mathbf{Area = 30x } --- white area

\mathbf{Area = 24x + 24} --- black area

<u>The paints</u>

The equation is given as:

\mathbf{2 \times White = Black}

Substitute the areas

\mathbf{2 \times 30x = 24x + 24}

\mathbf{60x = 24x + 24}

Collect like terms

\mathbf{60x - 24x = 24}

\mathbf{36x = 24}

Divide both sides by 36

\mathbf{x = \frac 23}

Because x has a positive real value, then the <em>same hallway be painted with the same pattern, but using twice as much black paint as white paint</em>

<u>Length of the hallway</u>

To calculate the length of the hallway, we simply equate both areas;

\mathbf{30x = 24x + 24}

Collect like terms

\mathbf{30x - 24x = 24}

\mathbf{6x = 24}

Divide both sides by 6

\mathbf{x = 4}

So, the length of the hallway is the sum of the following lengths:

\mathbf{Length = 5x}

\mathbf{Length = 4x + 4}

So, we have:

\mathbf{Length =5x + 4x + 4}

\mathbf{Length =9x + 4}

Substitute 4 for x

\mathbf{Length =9 \times 4 + 4}

\mathbf{Length =40}

So, the length of the hallway is 40 feet

Find (f ° g)(0). *
atroni [7]

Answer:

B

Step-by-step explanation:

Remark

I have to represent f(x) as plus +f(x)

I like to show this situation as +f(g(x)) which I think is much clearer.

+f(x) = 5x - 4

Solution

+f(g(x)) = 5(g(x)) - 4  What has happened is that wherever you see an x on the right you put in g(x).

Now on the right, you put whatever g(x) is equal  to.

+f(g(x)) = 5(x^2 - 1)  - 4

Remove the brackets.

+f(g(x)) = 5x^2 - 5 - 4

And make x = 0

+f(g(0)) = 5*0 - 5 - 4

+f(g(0)) = - 9
