The following factors influence drug abuse habits:

  • Laws - has a positive influence as it curbs it
  • Peers - has a negative influence by promoting it
  • Family - can either have a positive or negative influence depending on whether or not the family members abuse drugs
  • Societal/Cultural norms - has a positive influence as the society is against it
  • Positive role models - has a positive influence by teaching good values

Therefore, positive influences such as laws, societal norms, and positive role models help to stop drug abuse whereas negative influences like peers encourage drug abuse.
