What effect did the Soviet Union's launch of Sputnik have on the United States?
Paladinen [302]
The Soviet Union's launch of Sputnik was really a wake up call for the United States. America was still basking in the glory of winning World War ll and thought that they were the best and that no one could beat them. When we realized that the Soviets were ahead of us in the space race, President Kennedy scrambled to catch up (NASA was created). But, no one was really sure about what Sputnik did. Citizens thought that it could tap into radio waves and spy on them or take pictures of what they were doing (It was really just a satellite), but the unknown really scared Americans.

What is the ""myth"" of America's founding according to Howard Zinn?
Ierofanga [76]

Answer:

Myth of the American Founding Fathers, is that the American civil war or revolution was fought for the purpose or on behalf of a united people

Explanation:

In Howard Zinn's book titled "A People’s History of the United States" Zinn depicts American history from the perception of the oppressed, persecuted, powerless, and marginalized people, rather than the usual heroes and elites views.

Hence, among many ways, in which he expressed himself in the book, is him writing about the American Myth of the American Founding Fathers; is that the American civil war or revolution was fought for the purpose or on behalf of a united people, which according to him, it is false, rather, it was fought in favour of the wealthy and elites in the states, so as to protect their interest.

Sloan [31]

The correct answer to number 1 is C) The Commeemoration of the victims of the conflict.

The Gettysburg Address, given by President Abe Lincoln, was given on the site of the Battle of Gettysburg. This bloody battle between the Union and Confederacy was one that symbolized the effects that the Civil War was having on America. To address this idea, Lincoln refers to the individuals who risked their lives at this site in order to honor their legacy.

The correct answer to number 2 is A) Feelings of pride and belonging.

The writers of the Declaration of Independence are often referred to as the fathers of our country because they stood for values that we hold sacred in the United States. This includes the ideas of liberty, freedom, etc. This is why Lincoln refers to these individuals in this speech, in order to invoke that feeling of pride as a means to show everyone that we are fighting for the values that made America an independent nation.
