We know that pupils are students

Students = S
boys = B
Teachers = T

So....

S = 8T
Boys = 3G
T = B - 70

Since there is 8x students than teachers, I did Boys = 6x and girls = 2x

I'm going to use this next: S = 8T

8x = 8(B -70)

8x = 8(6x - 70)

8x = 4x - 560

x = 14

We know there is 8x students, so there are 112 students and we know that there is 1/8 of teachers, so there are 14 teachers.

Answer = 126.

ycow [4]

Answer:

x = 9

Explanation:

  • -4x - 6 = 3 - 5x
  • Add 6 to both sides

-4x - 6 + 6 = 3 - 5x + 6

-4x = -5x + 9

  • Add 5x to both sides

-4x + 5x = -5x + 9 + 5x

  • x = 9

A large bag contains 5/12 pounds of nails. How many 1/8 pounds bags can be filled with this amount of nails?
Amanda [17]

so, three bags can be filled and 0.33 or 0.33*(1/3) =11/100 nails will be left

Step-by-step explanation:

We will get the number of bags that can be filled from 5/12 by dividing the total amount by the 1/8

Given

Total nails in bag = 5/12 pounds

The capacity of small bag = 1/8 pounds

So,

Number\ of\ bags = \frac{\frac{5}{12}}{\frac{1}{8}}\\Simplifying\\=\frac{5}{12}*\frac{8}{1}\\=\frac{40}{12}\\=3.33\ bags

so, three bags can be filled and 0.33*(1/3) = 11/100 nails will be left
