-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Answer:  \textsf{a - c } > \textsf{ b - c}

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Given:  \textsf{a} > \textsf{b and c} > \textsf{0}

Find: \textsf{a - c } \_\_\_ \textsf{ b - c}

Solution: Since we know that a is greater than b this means that no matter if we subtract or add a constant to both sides a would stay greater than b. Therefore, this would give us the expression of a - c > b - c.

Problem Solving

Linear equations are often used to solve practical problems that have an unknown quantity. We use a suitable pronumeral to represent the unknown quantity, translate the information given in the problem into an equation, and then solve the equation using the skills acquired earlier in this chapter.

Example 11

If a number is increased by 8, the result is 25. Find the number.

Solution:

Let x be the number.  Increasing x by 8 gives x + 8, which we are told is 25.  Therefore, x + 8 = 25.  Subtract 8 from both sides to find x = 17.  So, the number is 17.

Step-by-step explanation:

I hope this helps!!!

\frac{(5 \:  -  \: 8x)}{( \sqrt{5 \:  -  \: 8x} )}  \:  =  \:  \sqrt{5 \:  -  \: 8x}
For the result to be Real,
5 \:  -  \: 8x \:  \geqslant  \: 0
8x \:  \leqslant  \: 5
x \:  \leqslant  \:  \frac{5}{8}
( \frac{(5 - 8x)}{( \sqrt{5 - 8x} )} ) \:  \times  \:  (\frac{ \sqrt{5 - 8x} }{ \sqrt{5 - 8x} } ) \:  =  \:  \frac{ {(5 \:  -  \: 8x)}^{ \frac{3}{2} } }{(5 \:  -  \: 8x)}
Hence,
\frac{{(5 \:  -  \: 8x)}^{ \frac{3}{2} } }{(5 \:  -  \: 8x)}
is the required form.
