Why would an organism prefer aerobic respiration as opposed to anaerobic respiration (fermentation)?

While what the other person said is correct, the true reason is because aerobic respiration is sustainable.

Anerobic respiration will produce 36 ATP faster than aerobic, but it will also produce lactic acid, which is toxic for cells (hint- it’s an acid)

This is why an organism would prefer aerobic respiration. Anaerobic fermentation would also produce toxic lactic acid.
