The scientific method's foundation is best described as "the process of hypothesis and testing through which scientific inquiry happens." Thus, the correct option is D.

What is scientific method?

The scientific method is a set of actions that are followed in order to develop scientific knowledge.

The scientific process includes the following steps:

 1. To make observations on a particular natural occurrence and then generate questions based on those observations.
 2. To answer these questions, you must propose a credible explanation (i.e., a hypothesis).
 3. To put the working hypothesis to the test using experimental and/or observational methods.
 4. To gather information in order to confirm or refute a working theory.
 5. Analyze the findings and develop conclusions.

Think about a petal plucked from its flower. When the petal is removed from the flower, will it remain alive according to
schepotkina [342]

When a petal is plucked from a flower, it will not remain alive for very long. It will soon start to decompose.

Explanation:

To understand this, we need to go back to the act of plucking the flower as such from the plant. The moment a flower is plucked from a plant, it stops receiving any further nutrition from the plant. Whatever nutrients were present in the flower at the time of plucking it will continue to keep it alive and once those nutrients are used up, the flower will start to decompose.

In this case, since the petal is plucked from a flower which already was surviving on limited nutrients, it will decompose very quickly.

According to the characteristics of life, it cannot be considered dead at the time it's plucked. It continues to live, but for a very brief time.

lana [24]

Answer: how a virus differs from a cell...

It doesn’t contain any kind of cytoplasm, cell wall, cell membrane, ribosome or mitochondrion.

It doesn’t have any sort of metabolic enzyme of its own. So, no nutrition system is seen.

It can’t reproduce itself, without any help of the host living cell.

It can be crystallized, centrifuged or diffused.

It doesn’t have any sort of somatic development.

Chemically, its just a fusion of protein and nucleic acid. So, this characters differ a Virus from a living cell.
