The North Atlantic right whale was classified as an endangered species in 2015. A major cause of death for these whales is colli

sions with shipping vessels. Several measures have been enacted to prevent such collisions in regions with a high abundance of right whales. In 2002 and 2006, shipping vessel lanes were rerouted around some of these regions. In 2008, speed restrictions were placed on the shipping vessels that were permitted to travel through these regions.
The graph below shows the estimated abundance of North Atlantic right whales from 1990 to 2015. The years in which these measures were enacted are marked on the graph.

The data in the graph is best supported by : ( D ) While changes to vessel lanes and speeds may have been beneficial to right whales, additional actions are needed to prevent population declines.

Description from the Graph

From the data presented in the graph the population of the right whales was favored by the changes in vessels lanes but the population began to decline again in and around 2009 therefore this is evident that additional actions are needed to prevent population declines other than changing vessel routes and placement of speed restrictions.

Hence we can conclude that While changes to vessel lanes and speeds may have been beneficial to right whales, additional actions are needed to prevent population declines.

Question:

Which of the following is an incorrect statement about the regulation of populations?

Answer:

b. Density-independent factors have an increasingly greater effect as a population's density increases.

Explanation:

A population can be defined as the total number of living organisms living together in a particular place and sharing certain characteristics in common.

Generally, these populations may be divided into a fraction of the population (subpopulation) based on certain factors and reasons.

Population change equation states that the change in the size of a population over a specific period of time is equal to the sum of the number of births and the number of immigrants that joined.

Mathematically, the population change equation is given by the formula;

Population Change = (Natality - Mortality) + (Immigration - Emigration)

Population regulation can be defined as a biological process that balances limiting factors affecting the growth of a population based on density. The factors that regulate the growth of a population are divided into two (2) main categories and these includes;

I. Density-independent factors.

II. Density-dependent factors.

Density-dependent are regulating factors such as predation, diseases, and competition that affect the size of the population of living organisms through decreasing or increasing mortality and birth rate.

Furthermore, density-independent factors do not have an increasingly greater effect as a population's density increases. Thus, its effect are reduced as a population's density increases in size.

Way an egg is so much larger then a sperm cell, need help.
Dmitry_Shevchenko [17]

Answer:

The egg contains both food and mitochondria in addition to its vital DNA, thats why it is much larger. The sperm cell has to be much smaller than the egg cell, because it is the one that swims. If a sperm cell were as big as an egg, it would not be able to move very fast nor very far.
