Being male rather than female influences the rate and speed at which a person's BAL rises.
BAL ( Blood Alcohol Level) is used as a measure of alcohol intoxication for legal, medical or other purposes.
Males and females process alcohol in a different way and they do not experience the same effects after consuming equal amounts of alcohol. The effects of alcohol consumption are therefore gender related.
Men are able to handle excessive alcohol consumption better than women. They are built differently, are larger and heavier, and have more blood volume and less body fat than most women. Men also have a higher concentration of dehydrogenase, which is an enzyme that breaks down alcohol.
As a result, women respond faster and with more intensity to drinking alcohol, meaning that if both sexes drink the same amount, women would get drunk quicker and their would suffer from alcohol intoxication for a longer time than men.
