Monopolists set prices without constraints since there is no competition.

Monopolistic is a type of market in which there is no competitor. It has only a single supplier and the goods are provided by a single company. In this market only a single company control demand and supply of the services. It can also b said that it is a non-competitive market. The absence of competition in the market allows the company to determine the price of the commodity. It takes away the bargaining power from the consumer. The single entity offers a unique product to the market and there is no alternative substitute available to the market. Government can curtail the monopoly of a company by limiting price increases, merger regulation, separating entities, etc.

________ is the risk that the host government will take specific steps that prevent the foreign affiliate from exercising control over the firm's assets.

Expropriation

What is expropriation ?

Expropriation is when a government seizes privately owned property against the owners' will, presumably so that it can be used for the general welfare of the populace. Properties are most frequently taken in the United States in order to construct roads, trains, airports, or other infrastructure projects. Since the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution prohibits the expropriation of private property "for public use without just compensation," the property owner must be compensated for the seizure.

So, Expropriation is the risk that the host government will take specific steps that prevent the foreign affiliate from exercising control over the firm's assets.

"In the late summer of 2005 some regions of the country were suffering from drought. What effect would we expect this to have on
den301095 [7]

Answer:

The answer is: You would expect a lower stock price.

Explanation:

Since John Deere´s main business is manufacturing and selling farming equipment you would expect its sales to rise when farmers are having a successful business year. But when farmers are having a very harsh and bad economic year then you would also expect John Deere´s sales to fall.

If your clients are suffering from a drought that means they will probably lose money or in a best case scenario earn a smaller profit. So they will have less money to invest in new equipment which results in lower sales for companies like John Deere. If John Deere´s sales are lower, they themselves will have a bad economic year so it is logical to assume that their stock price will fall.

What is the expected value when a $1 lottery ticket is bought in which the purchaser wins exactly $10 million if the ticket cont
Nadusha1986 [10]

We expect to lose $0.37 per lottery ticket

<u>Explanation:</u>

six winning numbers from = { 1, 2, 3, ....., 50}

So, the probability of winning:

P(win) = \frac{ no of favorable outcomes}{no of possible outcomes}

P(win) = \frac{1}{^5^0C_6} \\\\P (win) = \frac{6! X (50 - 6)!}{50!} \\\\P(win) = \frac{6! X 44!}{50!} \\\\P(win) = \frac{1}{15,890,700}

The probability of losing would be:

P(loss) = 1 - P(win)

P(loss) = 1 - \frac{1}{15,890,700} \\\\P(loss) = \frac{15,890,699}{15,890,700}

According to the question,

When we win, then we gain $10 million and lose the cost of the lottery ticket.

So,

$10,000,000 - 1 = $9,999,999

When we lose, then we lose the cost of the lottery ticket = $1

The expected value is the sum of the product of each possibility x with its probability P(x):

E(x) = ∑ xP(x)

= 9,999,999 X \frac{1}{15,890,700}  + ( -1 ) X \frac{15,890,699}{15,890,700} \\\\=- \frac{5,890,700}{15,890,700} \\\\= - \frac{58,907}{158,907} \\\\= - 0.37

Thus, we expect to lose $0.37 per lottery ticket
