To find a, we can simply do c squared minus b squared, and then find the square root of our result.

What is Pythagorean Theorem?

The Pythagorean Theorem is an evidence-based theory that in a right triangle, the two smaller sides (when squared), or what we call legs, add up to the biggest side (squared), which is what we identify as the hypotenuse. I’ll show an example because for some, it is better to show than verbally explain.

Let’s say I have the measurements 5 squared, 12 squared, and 13 squared. The hypotenuse here would be 13 squared because it is the largest side. This is important to look for when solving Pythagorean Theorem problems because if done incorrectly, you will come out with the wrong answer. Now that we know 13 squared is our hypotenuse, or c squared, we know that a squared (5 squared) and b squared (12 squared) must add up to it.

To find the squared value of any number, what we do is we multiply it by itself. So, for a squared, we would multiply 5 by 5. This gives us 25, which means that a squared is equal to 25. We can do the same for b squared; 12 x 12 = 144, so b squared is equal to 144. Now that we have our squared versions of our numbers, we can add them to verify that this is a right triangle. Does 144 + 25 = 169? Yes! Because this equation is true, we have the right triangle and its measurements solved!

The formula for solving for a is simple! Here are the steps:

Step 1: c squared minus b squared.

Step 2: Find the result of step 1, then find the square root of the result.

Step 3: The square root of the result is your answer!

Answer:

a = sqrt(c^2 - b^2)

see image.

Step-by-step explanation:

If you square both sides of the equation, you get the Pythagorean Theorem back again.

c = sqrt(a^2 + b^2)

c^2 = a^2 + b^2

Solve for a means to get a all by itself on one side of the equation. Subtract b^2 and then take the square root. See image.

The amount of time (in hours) that Sam studied for an exam on each of the last five days is given below. 1.7 7.7 8.3 1.6 5.1 Fin
____ [38]

Answer:

The mean is 4.88 hours / day

Step-by-step explanation:

To calculate the mean we just add the values and divide by the number of items (in this case we add the hours and divide by the number of days)

so the equation would be

\frac{1.7+7.7+8.3+1.6+5.1}{5}=4.88

Answer:

114

Step-by-step explanation:

break apart the shape into 2 smaller shapes and you'll get 15 and 4 for the 1st shape multiply them and you'll get 60. Then for the second shape you'll get 6 and 9 multiply them and you'll get 54. Last add them together and you get 114. (Sorry if I get it wrong)

The points (-1,2) and (4,y) have a slope of -4/5. what is the y-coordinate of the point (4,y)
Nastasia [14]

Answer:

y = - 2

Step-by-step explanation:

Calculate the slope m using the slope formula

m = ( y₂ - y₁ ) / ( x₂ - x₁ )

with (x₁, y₁ ) = (- 1,2) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (4, y)

m = \frac{y-2}{4+1}, hence

\frac{y-2}{5} = - \frac{4}{5} ( cross- multiply )

5(y - 2) = - 20 ( divide both sides by 5 )

y - 2 = - 4 ( add 2 to both sides )

y = - 2

coordinates of point are (4, - 2)

Write the ordered pair that represents MP. Then find the magnitude of MP.
jarptica [38.1K]

Answer:

(23,-4):\sqrt{545} units

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given that M(-19,4)and P(4,0)

We have to find the ordered pair that represents MP and find the magnitude of MP.

MP=P-M

MP=(4,0)-(-19,4)=(4+19,0-4)

MP=(23,-4)

Magnitude of MP=\sqrt{(23)^2+(-4)^2}

Magnitude of MP=\sqrt{529+16}

Magnitude of MP=\sqrt{545} units

Hence, .option c is true.

Answer:c.(23,-4):\sqrt{545} units
