So Explicit formula for 2nd one

  • 2a_{a-1}

Or general formula as per Geometric progression

  • a_n=ar^{n-1}=1(2)^{n-1}

For 50 years there are 365(50)=18250days excluding leap years (We will check for leap year if neck to neck situation arises)

Now find sum

Sum of 18250 terms

\\ \rm\Rrightarrow \dfrac{a(r^n-1)}{r-1}

\\ \rm\Rrightarrow \dfrac{1(2^{18250}-1)}{2-1}

1 from both denominator and numerator cancels out

\\ \rm\Rrightarrow 2^{18250}-1

\\ \rm\Rrightarrow 6.272214002E5493(Accurate)

It's far more than 1 M so second option would give you more penny

If a baseball card appreciates exponentially in value by 50% over 10 years, what is its annual appreciation (growth) rate? Pleas
Natali [406]

Using an exponential function, it is found that it's annual growth rate is of 4%.

<h3>What is an exponential function?</h3>

An increasing exponential function is modeled by:

A(t) = A(0)(1 + r)^t

In which:

  • A(0) is the initial value.
  • r is the growth rate, as a decimal.

In this problem, the card appreciates exponentially in value by 50% over 10 years, hence:

A(10) = 1.5A(0).

Thus:

A(t) = A(0)(1 + r)^t

1.5A(0) = A(0)(1 + r)^{10}

(1 + r)^{10} = 1.5

\sqrt[10]{(1 + r)^{10}} = \sqrt[10]{1.5}

1 + r = 1.04.

r = 0.04.

0.04 x 100% = 4%.

It's annual growth rate is of 4%.
