The deficiency of vitamin D leads to rickets. It is the condition in which the bones are fragile and softer than normal.

Rickets:

Vitamin D is responsible for the absorption of calcium and phosphorous from the diet. Calcium and phosphorous are the key minerals in the bones. The symptoms of rickets are delayed growth and motor skills along with pain and weakness in the legs and pelvis. It also leads to muscle weakness. The deficiency of vitamin D can also lead to bone deformities such as knock knees, and thickening of wrists and ankles. The source of vitamin D is sunlight and food such as fish oil and egg yolks.

In such a situation it would be best if Dr. Smith:

<span>''hire trained therapists who are from the same minority group''

This would have a wide ranging impact on the minority communities in the area.

Their participation would increase rapidly as their own community members would get the word out on the services provided and they might feel more comfortable in such an environment.

Since, mental health still has a stigma attached to it, especially in immigrant communities, this strategy would help to increase the level of mental health services provided to minority groups.
