Sir Thomas Raffles Stanford (1781-1826) is commonly recognized as the originator of the the port city of Singapore which was the foundation of the modern day Singapore. In his work, sir Thomas was greatly helped by  William Farquhar who also played a great role in founding Singapore. The reason why Sir Thomas is considered as the founder of Singapore is because he discovered the island and significantly worked towards its development for a great part of his life.
