This is a budgeting exercise. Based on the estimated cost of college which was set at $58,000, the following steps indicate how I intend to pay for college:

  • Scholarship - 70%   = $40,600
  • Work Study - 17.2% = $10,000
  • Loan - 12.76%         <u> = $7, 400</u>

                                        <u>$58,000</u>

Budgeting is simply the process of outlining the total expense requirements of an individual person or a corporate entity and how those expenses will be satisfied and efficiently allocated.

From the above, the total sum of $58,000 will be satisfied from three sources:

y-7 = m(x-10) + c

lets find slope, that is value of m,

y2-y1/x2-x1 = m

In measurement problems such as these, we can use proportional relationships to determine the length or measure of triangular sides.This works because the two figures are similar. Our proportion is going to have a variable since we do not know the height of one of the flagpoles. It will be set up as such: 

\frac{5}{8} = \frac{x}{32}

We cross multiply, then divide to solve this proportion.

32 x 5 = 160. 

160/8 = 20. 

This means the height of the flagpole is 20 feet high. To fit the height of the flag pole, the cord the school should buy for the flagpole should be 20 feet long.
