Carr's essay's goal is to enlighten the reader on one talent that he feels is undervalued: reading. He argues that the internet is rewiring the human brain. The internet has caught our attention and changed our mental process.

How do you identify the purpose of an author?

The purpose of a text or an author is identified via the central idea of that text or author. The central idea carries the message that the author seeks to communicate. Hence, their key purpose.

It is to be noted that sometimes the purpose of a text could be:

 • To communicate
 • To motivate
 • To forewarn
 • To express oneself.

Can you please answer this!
liraira [26]
Letter- This is credible, but not as much so as the others. A letter sent to Grandma Ella still must be credited if it was copied and shared, but it does not have valuable information and cannot be useful to one's knowledge.

Newspaper- This is very credible. Newspaper articles contain valuable information as in facts and statistics as well as opinions and point of views. Newspapers are also updated often so no information is old, unless you read an old article.

Data- This is also credible but supplies more information than credit. An analysis normally consists of numbers or percentages, which can still be credited but not as easily. Data consists of most people's opinions normally, as this is still a fact.

Radio- This is the least creditable. Radio stations talk about weather and current gossip, including pop stars, sports, etc. This is very hard to credit as it is live and cannot be credited without a recorder or a very good memory.
