In the example, molecules will move from the more concentrated side of the membrane to the other side until they reach equilibrium. Once in equilibrium, molecules will keep crossing the membrane, but concentrations will remain equilibrated.

What is diffusion?

Diffusion is a pathway for some small polar hydrophilic molecules that can freely move through momentary openings in the membrane that are formed as a result of lipids movements.

Simple diffusion depends on the substances' sizes and their concentration on each side of the membrane.

The membrane is selectively permeable because it only lets small substances move through it, with no protein mediating their passage.

A membrane's permeability depends on the size of the molecule, the bigger the molecule is, the less capacity to cross the membrane it has.

Diffusion is a very slow process and to be efficient requires short distances and pronounced concentration gradients. This is a passive transport process because the cell does not need any energy to make it happen.

An example of diffusion is osmosis where water is the transported molecule.

Diffusion is a process that occurs continuously. This means that even when the concentration of the molecule is equal on both sides of the membrane, molecules will still move from one side to the other. However, this movement will not break the equilibrium once it is reached.

In the exposed example, we can see there is a difference in concentration between both sides of the membrane.

What will happen here is that molecules will move from the more concentrated side of the membrane to the less concentrated one until they reach equilibrium. In other words, diffusion will occur until concentrations are equal at both sides of the membrane.

Once these molecules find equilibrium, they will keep moving, but keep the same equilibrated state.

Note: I did not find the options, so you should check them a select the correct one according to this framework.

If an amoeba engulfs a particle of food does it use energy?
vovangra [49]

Answer:

Endocytosis is a form of active transport hence require enegry powered by ATP. The amoeba needs to change shape and engulf and envaginate the particle and then use vessicle transportation to get the materials into the cell. This requires that the cytoskeleton - composed of tubules and filaments - contracts and relax accordingly. This requires energy by ATPs just like the myosin and actin of muscle.

Phagocytosis, another form of endocytosis, is used by some cells such as immune cells to engulf foreign material and then destroy them by use of lysozymes. This is how phagocytes protect the body from invaders.

How are land, air, water and living things impacted by too much carbon dioxide?
choli [55]

Answer:

- In terrestrial environments: increasing CO2 levels cause an increased photosynthetic rate

- In aquatic environments: increasing CO2 levels cause an increase in water acidity

- In both terrestrial and aquatic environments: increasing CO2 levels lead to an overall increase in the average temperature (global warming)

Explanation:

In terrestrial ecosystems, rising carbon dioxide (CO2) levels increase the rate of photosynthesis (since CO2 is one of the reactants in photosynthesis), thereby also increasing plant growth. Moreover, in aquatic ecosystems, rising CO2 concentrations increase the levels of this gas dissolved on the surface of the oceans. This increases the acidity of the oceans, thereby modifying habitats and food web structures. The increasing acidity of the oceans also reduces the amounts of carbonate, which difficult for aquatic species (e.g., corals) to form their shells/skeletons. Finally, CO2 is a greenhouse gas that contributes to the increase in the average temperature by absorbing solar radiation that would otherwise have been reflected by the Earth's surface, and this increase in the temperature negatively affects life in both terrestrial and aquatic environments.

1. Your online chat name should never contain your full name.
Illusion [34]

The correct options are as follows:

1. TRUE.

Your online chat name is your identity, which you use on the internet to communicate with your old friends and new friends, who you have just met and who you probably haven't met personally. It is of utmost importance that you don't use or reveal your full name online. This is because, your full name is the only thing some hackers need to get all the information they need about you. Through that single information, they can cause great havoc for you, like emptying your bank account, using your identity to commit fraud, stealing your email password and sending fraud messages through your box, etc.

2. D.

It is safe to tell an internet friend your favorite music. That is a relatively non important personal information that you can share with anybody. Such an information can not be used against you in any significant way. But sharing personal information such as full name, address and phone numbers can be very dangerous indeed if such information is shared with the wrong person.
