A human embryo has a mutation that prevents smooth muscle from developing in the body. Bodily functions which will be most heavily affected by this mutation include digestion, respiration, reproduction and excretion, if the fetus survives to birth.

Smooth muscle is present throughout the body where it performs a variety of functions. Smooth muscles assist with digestion as well as nutrient uptake in the stomach and the intestine.

These muscles are also present throughout the urinary system where they serve to aid the body in the elimination of excretory products.

Smooth muscle is seen in the walls of hollow organs, e.g. stomach, intestines, bladder, etc. It is also present in the walls of blood vessels, lymph vessels, as well as in the respiratory, urinary, and reproductive tracts.
