When evaluating a patient, retinal detachment should make the emt suspect that the patient may be suffering from a pulmonary embolism.

A pulmonary embolism is a disorder in which a blood clot blocks one or more arteries in the lungs. Shortness of breath, chest pain, and cough are common symptoms of pulmonary embolisms, which are typically brought on by blood clots that migrate from the legs or, in rare cases, other parts of the body. Prompt treatment to dissolve the clot dramatically lowers the chance of mortality. Blood thinners, medications, and surgical techniques can all be used for this. Exercise and compression stockings can help stop clots from developing in the first place.
