Creationists criticize the idea of natural selection as a circular argument, or tautology, claiming "the fittest are those that survive, and survival is how fitness is defined. "

The definition of natural selection is not tautological because natural selection is measured by contribution to the next generation, not simply survival of an individual organism.

Tautologies or circular arguments are true at all times and therefore are not productive as theories since they cannot be disproved. A tautology is a statement which is true by necessity.

Natural selection is the prevalent theory which explains biological change by predicting the mechanism behind evolution.

Nevertheless, natural selection can be explained non-tautologically. It should be described as the theory which tries to speculate as well as retrodict evolutionary change by environmental forces affecting the organisms.

In proteins, amino acids are linked by peptide bonds; in polynucleotides, nucleotides are linked by ________.
Sergeeva-Olga [200]

Answer: Phosphodiester bond

Explanation:

The backbone of DNA consists of deoxyribose nucleotides linked by phosphodiester bridges.

The 3'-hydroxyl of the adjacent sugar of one deoxyribonucleotide is joined to the 5'-hydroxyl of the adjacent sugar by an internucleotide linkage called a phosphodiester bond.

Thus, phosphodiester bond is the answer

Describe how succession can help restore the equilibrium of an ecosystem.
lara [203]
Ecological succession is a process of inhabiting a zoological area by a group of organisms. it involves many stages to reach the climax stage such as primary, secondary, tertiary names basing on the habitat where it occurs. once the organisms reach the most stable stage of the succession. thus it maintains equilibrium

Succession helps restore the equilibrium of an ecosystem by forming up new species, diversifying species, and basically by replacing the damaged, deranged, or disturbed community. For instance, when a sudden climate change occurred in a community, such as drought, dryness, fire, or heat waves, all living things that depends on water or survives in a cool, wet environment will die or migrate somewhere else. Thus, leaving that community vacant and/or unoccupied by any living things. Succession, then, will take place in that area by going through various stages until reaching the climax stage, in which the ecosystem is complete again. c: hope i helped :D
