The effectiveness of Mortimer's style in The Time Traveler's Guide to Elizabethan England, Part 1 is that  Mortimer system of writing is one that is seen in to helps link readers' modern lives with those of the lives of Elizabethans.

Note that Mortimer often writes as if readers are inside or are part of the action in order to arouse their interest.
