To determine whether a child's inattentive or hyperactive impulsive symptoms are developmentally inappropriate or excessive: clinicians can administer norm-referenced rating scales to parents and teachers; very high symptom ratings might qualify the child for a diagnosis of ADHD.

Impulsive symptoms include lack of attention, restlessness, excessive talking, problems in doing simple tasks, etc. The impulsive nature generally arises due to the feeling of insecurity or possessiveness.

ADHD is Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The disorder is more prevalent in children. If care not taken, it can continue till adulthood as well. The child may remain distracted, have poor organizational skills, etc.
